THE MOST IMPORTANT EVENTS AND CAREER DECISIONS;
The National team isn’t just something that has to be said with respect in Andrea’s presence. She will never forget the first call she received to wear the jersey with the national emblem. She got a call from Mile Isakovic before the qualifier against Macedonia, where she was drafted as a backup player next to the names of the stars of Serbian-Montenegrin handball at the time. Two of their key players got injured, and the phone of the Lekic residence started ringing:
“I cannot describe what it meant to me at 17 years of age. I was shocked. I had three hours to get to the “Park” hotel in Novi Sad, and I didn’t know what to bring, when to leave, and I had no idea how to get there. It was definitely a stressful experience for me. No match can compare to the time I got a chance to get there, meet the national team coaches and all of those star players.”
She’s been a part of the national team since 2005, and she played her first official match in 2006 on the “Carpathian Cup” right before the European Championship in Sweden. She finally got her big chance in Scandinavia, and after playing for the National team for five years, she became captain in October, 2011, even though she was already prepared for that responsibility before that moment.
